Inspiring health and happiness in body, mind and spirit

Early Fall 2013 Yoga Classes

August 24, 2013
I'm writing with a quick post for local readers who may be interested in yoga and meditation classes this fall. I'm rejiggering my schedule a little, and want to share the news. Here's what I'll be teaching:

POSE AND REPOSE will meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30, starting September 4. In this six-week session we'll dive deeper into the form and flow of many familiar (and some not-so-familiar) yoga postures, seeking a practice that cultivates both strength and softness. We'll consider both active movements that enliven the body and also quiet postures that offer deep rest and ease. We'll spend lots of time focusing on alignment and technique in our quest to build beautiful yoga poses and beautiful, happy minds.

I've developed this class in response to those of you who have requested a little more direction and technical instruction to guide your own yoga practice. This will be a continuing level yoga class, which means this class is most appropriate for those with some yoga experience (although adventurous beginners are welcome, too). I'm looking forward to being both a scientist and an artist with you as we explore yoga together. The fee for this session is $66.

MOVING TOWARD MEDITATION will meet on Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:30 PM, starting September 5. In this class we'll rely on age-old techniques to cultivate a sense of unfettered ease and unshakable happiness in our bodies and our minds. We'll do this through exploring both active yoga postures - meditation in movement - and also quiet seated meditation techniques. We'll explore ways to foster a sense of ease and acceptance in even the busiest moments of our days, and work toward cultivating a regular seated meditation practice.

I've created this class in response to requests for an introductory meditation course. My experience has been that movement is often the best way to soothe the mind enough for it to rest happily in silence, which is why we'll include both yoga postures and seated practice. This class is appropriate for both new and continuing students. I'm looking forward to building a community of fellow meditators, and I hope you'll consider joining me. The fee for this session is $66.
