Inspiring health and happiness in body, mind and spirit

Spring Yoga and Meditation

April 5, 2019

Are you ready to emerge from hibernation into the bloom of spring? If so, please join me as we explore movement and meditation amid the brightness of the season ahead.

Registration is now open for spring and summer yoga and meditation sessions at Kingwood Center Gardens. This is our third year combining contemplative practices and the beauty of Kingwood, offering a truly unique opportunity to move, breathe and relax amid the sights and sounds of spring.

A four-week Introduction to Yoga begins on Thursday, May 9. The class meets from 5:30 to 6:30 each week, and is held outdoors (with an indoor location in case of inclement weather). All levels of practitioners are welcome, and students will be encouraged to modify the practice to suit their own needs and wishes.

A one-time Yoga for Gardeners workshop will be held at Kingwood on Sunday, May 19, from 2 to 4 PM. In this class we'll explore ways of standing, bending, stooping and resting that help keep the body strong throughout the gardening season. We'll also explore after-gardening restorative postures, as well mindfulness techniques that help us enjoy every last moment among the flowers. (Some Kingwood promotional materials have the incorrect date for this workshop, but rest assured that May 19 is when this will happen.)

In addition, a free Introduction to Meditation session will be offered at Kingwood on both May 6 and June 10. The classes will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 and will meet outside, weather permitting. In these sessions, we'll explore the power of mindfulness to manage stress and cultivate happiness. If you are curious about meditation and would like a friendly introduction, this is the class for you.

To register for the Kingwood classes, please contact Kingwood here or at 419-522-2211.

Kingwood has shortened its hours this summer, and that means our morning Mindful Movement class will remain at the First Congregational Church on Wednesdays from 9 to 10:30. This class is filled with wise and wonderful practitioners who always welcome newcomers with a smile. We have a delightful time together exploring both familiar and new yoga and movement practices, each of us modifying the explorations to suit our own needs and interests. Payment is by donation and no pre-registration is required - just show up!

Our Monday night meditation group also continues throughout the spring and summer. We meet at the Mansfield Art Center from 6 to 7 PM for discussion and practice. Together we consider not just how to meditate, but also how we can use the practice to cultivate ease and happiness in our greater lives. This session always leaves me smiling as we joyfully fortify ourselves for the week ahead. This is a donation-based class and no pre-registration is required. Both new and experienced practitioners are welcome. (On two dates - May 6 and June 10 - our group will meet at Kingwood as part of the free meditation sessions there.)

And finally, beginning May 13 I'll be leading a short and sweet Introduction to Qigong class on Monday nights from 5:30 to 6 PM  at the Mansfield Art Center, just before meditation. Qigong is a centuries-old movement practice similar to yoga and tai chi that fosters health and happiness in body, mind and spirit. I have fallen deeply in love with this practice and am thrilled to share it with others. (Read more about qigong here.) Weather permitting, we'll practice outside. Join us for a quick Monday night pick-me-up, or stay for our meditation session, which meets directly afterward.

I hope to see you this spring as we cultivate deep roots and brilliant blooms in our lives. As always, you can find complete information about my class schedule on my website here.
